Vision

Emmaus Church is centered on intentional community, relationship, radical hospitality, living into our baptismal identities, discipleship, being around table together, and faithfully being together in God’s Word.

Hospitality

Emmaus is a place that strives to be radically hospitable – that is – we work to create a space that removes barriers to entry and participation in our community. We strive to do this in all aspects of our community, life, and worship.

Food hospitality

One particular way we seek to be hospitable is around food. As such we make sure that our meals cover all the major allergy groups, offering a variety of food options so that everyone can eat together. Similarly our Communion Bread at worship is dairy, soy, gluten, and nut free and vegan friendly so that all may partake from the same loaf. If you have have questions or concerns about food please don’t hesitate to reach out to emmauschurchholland@gmail.com

Embodied Worship & Liturgical Shenanigans

We are passionate at Emmaus about practices of embodied worship, as worship is not simply something done with our minds, but with our all of our being, our whole body. We do this through what we call liturgical shennagins in worship and community. These can take a number of forms, including artistic responses and engagement, embodied prayer, engaging scripture in creative ways, and through scripture enactments.

Community

We are passionate about time together in community, be that in worship, at our monthly Bible Study, at Pub & Praise where we gather together to sing and spend time in community, our prayer services, or in any of our other gatherings. We strive to be together in the good, the bad, and the mundane of life. Life comes with ups and downs and we want to walk with you in all of it.

A church for the dechurched

“Dechurch” is a term that speaks to when someone is not part of a church due to church hurt, lack of community, seeing the pain and corruption prominent in the news around church and faith, or for a number of reasons. However, for many of these people this is not because they don’t believe in God or necessarily do not want to be a part of a church community, but rather because their experience with the church has led them to not be part of an ecclesial community. If this is you – or if you are passionate about this, we’d love to have you join us at Emmaus and help create a radically hospitable, safe, caring, and welcoming space to engage in community and the life of faith.
